Acceptable Use Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective 20 September 2026 · Applies to everyone who uses MusiCal for Schools: administrators, teachers, students and families
In plain English
- Use MusiCal only for your school’s music programme, and only through your own account.
- Be respectful. Notes, emails and uploads must be about music lessons and must never be hurtful, offensive or unlawful.
- Keep your password private and sign out on shared devices.
- Do not try to see other people’s information or get around the security of the service.
- If something looks wrong or someone is not being safe, tell your teacher or your school, or email us.
This summary is for convenience only. The full text below is what applies.
1.For students (in plain language)
1.1MusiCal is where you can see your lesson times, find the music your teacher has shared, log your practice and message your own teacher. Here is how to use it well:
- Your login is yours. Do not share your password, and do not use anyone else’s login. If you use a shared computer, sign out when you finish.
- Be kind. Anything you write to your teacher, or in your practice log, should be polite. Never write anything mean, rude or threatening.
- Keep it about music. MusiCal is for your lessons. Do not use it to send jokes, links or anything that is not about your learning.
- Your details. You can update your own details in your account page. Do not put in things that are not true, and do not add private information that your teacher does not need.
- Only your own stuff. You should only ever see your own lessons and resources. If you ever see someone else’s information, do not share it — tell a teacher straight away so it can be fixed.
- Ask for help. If something in MusiCal worries you, or someone contacts you through it in a way that feels wrong, tell a teacher, your parent or carer, or your school as soon as you can.
1.2Your school is in charge of your account. Your teachers and your parents or carers can see your lesson schedule, attendance and notes, because that is what MusiCal is for.
2.Who this policy applies to
2.1This policy applies to every person who uses MusiCal for Schools (you): school administrators, teachers and tutors, students, and parents or guardians. It forms part of our Terms of Service, which the school (the School) has agreed to on behalf of its users.
2.2Schools may apply their own, stricter rules of use. Where they do, those rules apply as well.
3.Accounts and access
3.1Use only the account issued to you, only for the school it belongs to, and only for that school’s music programme.
3.2Keep your password confidential. Do not share accounts. Tell your school administrator (or us) promptly if you think your account has been used by someone else.
3.3Do not attempt to access, view or change information belonging to another person or another school, whether by guessing links, altering requests, using another person’s login, or any other means. If you come across information you should not be able to see, do not copy or share it; report it under section 7.
3.4Do not probe, scan or test the security of the Service, or attempt to bypass rate limits, authentication or access controls, without our prior written permission. Security researchers can contact us at info@musicalendar.app.
4.Content and conduct
4.1Everything you enter or upload — notes, practice logs, emails sent through MusiCal, resources and profile details — must be lawful, accurate, and related to the music programme.
4.2You must not use the Service to create, upload, link to or send content that:
- bullies, harasses, threatens, humiliates or discriminates against any person;
- is sexual, violent, hateful or otherwise inappropriate for a school community or for children;
- infringes copyright or another person's rights (for example uploading sheet music you do not have the right to share);
- contains malware, or links to phishing or malicious sites;
- is spam, advertising or unrelated solicitation;
- discloses another person's personal information without authority.
4.3Free-text fields (lesson notes, comments, custom fields) must not be used to record health information or other sensitive information about a student or staff member. Schools keep such information in their own systems.
4.4Communication with students. Teachers and tutors must communicate with students only through the channels the School authorises, only about the student’s learning, and in line with the School’s child-safety and code-of-conduct policies. MusiCal has no chat or messaging between students, and a student can only email their own assigned teacher.
4.5Resources and links. Teachers and tutors may share teaching files (in MusiCal for Schools: PDF, Word, MP3 or Guitar Pro) and links to videos and websites. Before sharing, they must confirm that the material: does not contain recordings, photos or videos of students or anyone’s personal information; is theirs to share, public domain, or covered by the School’s copyright licence (no scanned books or commercial recordings without permission); and, for links, is suitable for the students’ age. Videos are shared as links, not uploaded.
4.6Emails and templates. Administrators who send bulk or automated emails through MusiCal are responsible for their content and must not use them for marketing unrelated to the music programme.
5.Technical limits
5.1Do not use automated tools (bots, scrapers, bulk downloaders) against the Service, or do anything that places an unreasonable load on it or interferes with other schools.
5.2Do not upload files that exceed the published size limits, are disguised as another file type, or are not needed for teaching.
5.3Do not copy, reverse-engineer, resell or make the Service available to anyone outside your school.
6.What happens if the policy is breached
6.1We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or close an account or a whole school workspace that breaches this policy. Where it is practical we will tell the School’s administrator first. Serious or repeated breaches may lead to termination under the Terms of Service.
6.2Where the law requires it, or where a child’s safety is at risk, we may report conduct to the School, to a parent or guardian, or to the relevant authorities.
7.Reporting a problem
7.1Students and families: tell your teacher or your school first. They control your account and can act quickly.
7.2Anyone can report a security concern, a privacy concern, a child-safety concern, inappropriate content, or a technical fault to us at info@musicalendar.app. We acknowledge reports within 2 business days, treat child-safety reports as urgent, and handle personal information in reports under our Privacy Policy.
8.Changes to this policy
8.1We may update this policy from time to time. Updates are published on this page with a new version number and effective date. For material changes we email each School’s administrator contact at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
